Abstract
444,541. Centrifugal gas - cleaners. BOOTH, V., BOOTH, W., BOOTH, E., and BOOTH, J., Canal Wharf Works, Canal Road, Congleton, Cheshire. Aug. 16, 1935, No. 23094. [Class 23] The receiving chamber 1 of a cyclone separator communicates by an opening 6 with an expansion chamber 5 which is in communication with the atmosphere through filtering means 11, 12. A cone 2 forms the lower part of the chamber 1 and it is surrounded by an outer cone 4 with an outlet 7 controlled by an apertured damper 8. A baffle tube 16 depends from the cover 15, and an outlet tube 18 is arranged at its upper end to communicate with the atmosphere by lateral ports 19 which can be varied by the adjustment of a top baffle plate 21. The annular space between the tubes 16, 18 communicates with a helical conduit 23 which in the example shown, is connected by a pipe 24 to the intake 25 of a fan 26. The volume of gas passing out by this path is varied by a valve placed in the conduit 23 or the pipe 24. The gas charged with disintegrated material enters the apparatus by the pipe 28 under the pressure of the fan 26, and passes tangentially into the chamber 1. The coarser solids drop to the outlet 7 and the gas rises in the baffle tube 16 to pass to the fan by the helical conduit 23 and to the atmosphere through the tube 18. Part of the gas with fine solid matter suspended in it rises through the expansion chamber 5 and passes to the atmosphere through the filters 11, 12. These are made of wooden frames 14 carrying wire, silk, or other gauze of suitable mesh. A sack may be secured at the discharge opening 7.
