Abstract
439,997. Ventilators. LODGE, H., Cilbert, Irby, Cheshire. Sept. 19, 1934, No. 26881. [Class 137] Air is extracted from an enclosure by a foursided or polygonal ventilator 1 having openings 3 in its sides closed by flaps 4 pivoted at 6, and controlled by cords 8 from below. Each flap tends to close its opening by being spring controlled or weighted, but on the leeward side of the ventilator the flaps are opened, and an induced exhaust is set up. In a modification for use in ships, the flaps 4<a>, Fig. 5, are pivoted vertically, and are operated from the exterior by bolts 12 which either holds them closed, or engage in perforated quadrants to retain them open on the leeward side. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of mushroom headed buttons sensitive to wind pressure and which, by electrical means, indicate on a dial the direction of the wind, and automatically operate the appropriate flaps.
