Abstract

434,867. Safety paper. SCHOELLER GES., H. A., 70, Oberstrasse, Duren, Rhineland, Germany. Feb. 1, 1935, No. 3303. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1934. [Class 96] Compound safety paper for cheques, deeds, drafts, bank notes, &c. includes two or more chemicals which can react to give a visible effect, when a protective layer separating them is tampered with, as by washing with water, alcohol, or by mechanical erasure. The interacting chemicals may be (a) salts of silver or lead, and sulphur, sulphides, or chromates, or (b) iron salts, and tannin, tannic or gallotannic acid. One component may be added to the pulp, or spread over the paper, the protective layer and the second component being then applied ; or alternatively the paper may comprise several layers united by couching together, or by an adhesive, e.g. casein, starch, dextrin, animal size, &c. In one form the chemicals are incorporated in layers e and f which are united by a size or adhesive g acting also as a protective layer ; or alternatively there may be a protective layer on both outer surfaces.
