Abstract
414,571. Valve actuating-mechanism. PATTER, H. S. V., 98, 34th Avenue, and McKEAN, J. C., 145, 11th Avenue, both in Lachine, Quebec, Canada. Dec. 18, 1933, No. 35606. [Class 135.] In actuating-mechanism for gate valves, sluice gates, &c., the initial opening force is increased by the use of levers. The stem 13 of the valve 12 is secured to a casing 16 in which slides an actuating block 15 secured, for example, to the piston 14 of hydraulic operating-gear. A lever 35 pivoted on the block fulcrums on a rib 34 on the framing 25 and, during the initial rise of the block 15, engages the upper edge of a slot 36 in the casing 16, so that an increased force is applied to release the valve from its closed position. When the block 15 engages the closed end 19 of the casing 16, the block and casing move together.
