Abstract

405,430. Vehicle bodies. PRESSED STEEL CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., Cowley, and SWALLOW, W., 31, Forest Road, Headington, both in Oxford. Nov. 18, 1932, No. 32621. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i).] Vehicle bodies are constructed of a number of bays or units each comprising roof side and floor sections and each complete in itself. The units which comprise floor, side and roof sections may be manufactured of metal or moulded from plastic material. The floor sections comprise a corrugated panel 17 secured at its edges to channel members 18 and reinforced by stringers 21 the ends of the panel resting on and secured to flanges 34 of upright panels 19. The side sections comprise an outer panel 11 having a window opening 12, an inner panel 15 and a window surround 25, 26 the section being completed by channel members at its upright edges. The roof section comprises spaced panels 22, 23 secured to the side panels by welding &c. The completed adjacent units are secured across the bottom by bolts 36 and at the sides and roof by means of the channel members 13 having cranked edges 14. Return channel members 32 are welded within the members 13 and have cranked edges 33 forming with edges 14 recesses in which the edges of the panels 11 project. Strips of wedge shape entering the recesses clamp the units together by means of bolts 42 means being provided to embrace the latter to prevent movement.
