Abstract

389,739. Electric battery lamps. ELEKTROTECHNISCHE FABRIK SCHMIDT & CO., GES., Bodenbach, Czecho- Slovakia. Aug. 25, 1932, No. 23843. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1931. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iv).] In a battery hand-lamp having an inverted U-shaped carrying handle, the extremities of the handle are pivotally mounted within a switch housing which is secured to the upper surface of the battery casing, and which does not form a lid for the battery casing. In the battery lamp shown, an inverted U-shaped housing 3 enclosing a switch is mounted on top of the battery casing 1 and is formed with reduced end portions 20 in which are pivoted the inwardly turned ends of the carrying handle 2. The switch consists of a U-shaped spring contact 5 which is adapted to be moved longitudinally of the housing 3 into "on" and "off" positions by a button 4 which projects through a slot in the top of the housing 3. A projection 5a at the extremity of the contact spring 5 is adapted, when the button 4 is moved into its " on position to engage a recessed contact member 6a which is connected through a plate 6 to the negative contact spring 10 of the battery 11. The negative pole of the battery is thereby connected to the "earthed" " outer contact of the lamp-bulb 12. The circuit is completed through a member 7 which connects the positive contact 9 of the battery to the central contact of the bulb 12. The plate 6 and the member 7 are insulated from the battery casing 1 by fabric strips 8, 8a. The button 4 mav be retained in its " off " position by the projection 5a of the contact 5 engaging a recess 13 in the strip 8. To prevent ingress of moisture through the slot in the housing 3, an enlargement 14, Fig. 3, may be formed on the spring contact 5 to cover the slot, or a separate member, conforming in shape to the exterior of housing and secured to the button 4, may be disposed above the slot.
