Abstract
372,378. Screw propellers. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, London, and TELFER, E. V., 12, Mosley Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Nov. 7, 1930, No. 33556. [Class 114.] The driving faces of screw propeller blades are formed with roughenings at or near the leading edge to reduce the velocity of water flow at this point and thus to prevent the formation of negative pressures. The blade a has roughening grooves or serrations b formed near the leading edge c, these being shallow at the leading edge, gradually increasing in coarseness and then gradually fading into the smooth surface of the blade. Similar roughenings may also be provided on the back of the blade.
