Abstract

356,428. Coiling helices. SPUHL, E. and SPUHL, J., 7, Lukastrasse, St. Gall, Switzerland. Aug. 13, 1930, No. 24287. [Class 83 (iv).] Shearing - adjuncts.- In a machine for coiling helical springs, motion is transmitted from cams 15, 24 to the coiling roller 6, carried by a lever 8, and the pitch tool 7, sliding in a guide 23, by means of twoarmed levers 13, 21 and links 10, 18 of adjustable length, the levers being mounted on fixed pivots while the pin connecting each link to the corresponding lever arm is adjustable along an arcuate slot in the arm, whereby the shape or pitch of the spring may be altered. The wire 1 is led from draw rollers 2, 3 through guides 4, 5 to the roller 6 and tool 7, the upper guide 4 being pivoted about a pin 26 and pressed downwards by a spring 39. An upper knife 29, shaped so as to lead the wire on to the roller 6, is adjustably secured to the frame, while a lower knife 27 rests through an adjustable abutment 34 on a lever 31 co-operating with a cam 32 so as to be moved upwards to sever the wire at appropriate intervals.
