Abstract

354,304. Gas and liquid-fuel burners. MAGOWAN, A., 4K, Leeds Road, Cutsyke, Castleford, Yorkshire. March 3, 1930, No. 6973. [Class 75 (i).] An atomizer, vaporizer or liquid fuel burner comprising concentric tubes 1, 8, 9, Figs. 1 and 2, connected at one end to an air supply pipe and to which liquid is supplied through radially arranged pipes 14 has preheated air supplied from the elbow tube 3 to the central tube and passage ways between the concentric tubes, whilst an additional air tube 19 is provided to regulate the admission of preheated air to the inner tube and to conduct cool air to the inner tube 9 and thus prevent it from being overheated. The casing of the burner may be formed with a central cylindrical part 1 bolted to a part 6 carrying a truncated conical nozzle 7, and to an elbow part 3 connected to the hot air supply. Within the parts 1, 6 the concentric tubes 8, 9 are mounted by radially directed screws 13 and inclined vanes 11 by which the heated air is swirled. The tube 8 may be bent over at its inner end to form an insulation jacket to protect the tube 9. The outer end of the tube 9 is coned at 12. Liquid is supplied to the radial pipe 14 through pipe 15 provided with stop valves 16. The cold air supply pipe 19 which is provided with an insulating jacket 27 is arranged to slide in a tubular projection of the elbow 3 and is connected to an elbow 23 provided with a projection 23a closed by a cap 25 having transparent window 26 through which the interior of the tube 9 may be observed.
