Abstract

352,526. Rotary pumps. OWEN, J. J., Beaufort, Twydall Lane, Rainham, Kent. April 4, 1930, No. 10800. [Class 110 (ii).] Fixed-abutment type.-In a reversible pump a rotor is bored out for one or more cylindrical axially-sliding vanes each of which has parallel inclined ends which slide on inclined surfaces l, l<1> of the pumping chamber. The vanes extend from the rotor shaft b to the inner periphery of the pumping chamber. Inlet and outlet ports p, p<1> may be supplied in the casing walls or through the rotor, and may be connected in pairs. The shaft b has a shoulder which bears against a thrust-plate d. A modification, Fig. 21, shows a rotor with end walls parallel to the plane of rotation. The vanes r<1> move in cylindrical slots in the rotor and extend radially into grooves cut into the shaft and into the outer peripheral wall of the rotor.
