Travelling-band strainers.-Each plate or panel i of an endless strainer has its forward edge i<1> bent inward to take over a transverse rod h, the ends of which form pivots for the links g, g<1> of supporting chains passing round wheels d, and its rear edge i<2> bent outward so that it forms a cup to collect floating debris on the upward run of the strainer. The rods h are provided with antifriction rollers h<2> spaced by sleeves n and with rollers h<1> which travel in vertical guides m. At the lower end the rollers pass between curved guides p and curved beds p<1>, which direct them into the guides m. The cups i<2> engage a curved sealing plate r below the beds p<1>. The chain wheels d are driven by gearing e from an electric motor f, which also operates a pump j<2> to draw water through a pipe j<3> for delivery to jets k, which clean the straining plates and assist the discharge of adherent matter into a trough j. A hood may be provided to enclose the upper end of the screen, the chain wheels, the cleaning jets, and the trough j.
