Abstract

286,944. Denny, C. W. June 28, 1927. Imitation fires.-A flicker effect in imitation fires is produced by a device d known as an otheoscope arranged between an illuminant c and the translucent " fuel " b. The otheoscope operates under the action of the radiation from the illuminant and casts a moving shadow across the fuel. The form shown comprises an evacuated bulb containing fixed inclined vanes g above which is pivoted a light transparent disc h, of mica for example, on which is a broad black band i. The molecular disturbance produced by the radiation causes the disc to rotate, it being stated that the action of the device is more regular than that of an ordinary radiometer. The lamp c may be partially obscured and electric heating-elements e and a heat insulating partition f may be arranged at the front of the fire.
