Abstract
285,911. Strandgren, C. B. Feb. 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Paddle wheels.-Comprises adjustable, means for feathering the paddles in paddle wheels of the kind in which the paddles are pivoted on axes parallel to the main shaft, and are feathered so that the normals to their working faces intersect at a single point. Specification 248,028 is referred to. Fig. 1 shows diagrammatically the feathering means as applied to one of the paddles 15 of the wheel. The paddle is pivoted at 7 to one arm 14 of the star-wheel carried by the main shaft 5, and has pivoted to it at 13 a feathering link 18, the other end of which is pivoted to the short arm 11 of a bell-crank lever 10, 11 which is in turn pivoted to the star-wheel or arm 14 at the point 12. The arm 10 of the bell-crank engages a radial guide 9 in a disc 8 which is free to rotate about an eccentric centre 4'. The linkage is such that as the main shaft 5 is rotated the paddles 15 are feathered so that normals to their surfaces intersect' at a point 6. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3 separate discs 8 are provided for each paddle. They rotate upon rollers 1, 2, 3, carried by a frame 20 which may be adjusted vertically, to regulate the feathering, by a hand-screw 27, and horizontally by a similar screw. Arms 10<1> on the discs have studs 32 engaging grooves 33 in guides 9<1>.
