Abstract
276,512. Sitzler, L. E. Sept. 21, 1926. Pencils.-A stick of lead for enclosure in a wooden or like case is provided with a sheath or covering of paper, fabric, and like material impregnated with an adhesive so as to form a stiff support for the lead during sharpening or against external blows and to retain it should it be fractured inside the case. The sheath may be applied by means of two strips of material C, preferably loosely woven cotton or linen, coated on both sides with adhesive and placed in position on the two halves B of the case, the lead A being then inserted and the two halves pressed together; the lead may be encased by means of a spirallywound strip of material, a second strip wound in the opposite direction being applied if desired; the lead may be enclosed in a tubular sheath; or the bore of a tubular case may be lined with a sheath, secured in position, if desired, by adhesive, and the marking-substance forced into position. The bore of the case may be corrugated or roughened to hold the sheath in position.
