Abstract
247,018. Wal, A. van der. Feb. 28, 1925. Lotions; medicaments for external application. -A remedy for foot and mouth disease consists essentially of a solution made by dissolving sugar of lead (lead acetate) and litharge in hot water and adding a solution of alum in water, the proportions being such as to leave an excess of a lead compound in solution. Disinfectants, medicinal tinctures, and insect-repalling substances may be added. Specified additional ingredients of these kinds are :-boracic, :benzoic, and salicylic acids, tinctures of myrrh, aloes, and eucalyptus, and oils of eucalyptus and citronella. Colouring matter such as burnt chicory or caramel may also be added. A mixture which will adhere to the hoofs consists of the solution referred to above together with wood tar, resin, a vegetable fatty oil, bees' wax, yolk (grease), zinc oxide, boric, benzoic or salicyclio acid, and eucalyptus or citronella oil or both.
