243,370. Choffel, C., and Jacquelin, A., (trading as Choffel et Jacquelin). Nov. 20, 1924, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-Liquid and gaseous carburetting media are supplied and may be used separately or in combination both being controlled in the latter case by a suction-actuated shutter. The casing a is connected to the engine at a<1> and has inlets a<2> for air, b for liquid fuel and c for gaseous fuel. A throttle valve d is located in the air inlet and works in conjunction with a partition h located between parallel walls of the chamber a<3>. The partition serves as a seat for a suction-actuated flap f<2> pivoted at e and loaded by a spring g. The flap carries a fuel control needle and, on the other side of the pivot, is extended to form a closure member f<1> for the gaseous inlet c. The extent of opening of the flap is controlled by a finger l pivoted at m and actuated by a lever o through a link n. The liquid fuel nozzle i is provided with an adjusting needle k. The arm o is connected to the accelerator pedal through a rod s and to the arm p on the throttle valve through on adjustable link r. As the throttle is opened, the flap is allowed a greater movement and more air is permitted to enter the space below the flap. To ensure a uniform pressure of the gaseous medium it is passed through a chamber, one side of which is formed as a flexible, spring-loaded diaphragm connected to a valve controlling the outlet from the chamber and connected to the inlet c. The gases mentioned are acetylene and lighting gas. If either the liquid or gaseous medium is not required, its supply pipe is closed.
