Abstract

A wall-storable table and chair unit comprises tabletop 1, support legs 2, folding chairs 4, extendable bar 3 hinged onto wall mountable plate 10 and chair support bars 5 hanging from bar 3. Bar 3 preferably extends under tabletop 1, with supporting legs 5 either side, and between the chairs to handle 9, via which the unit is lowered or raised. Bar 3 preferably comprises two halves joined under tabletop using box section 8 which allows bar 3 to be extended and the distance between the table and the chairs to be adjusted. When the unit is stored the halves of bar 3 are preferably pushed together and the unit folded up about the hinge, the seats of the chairs nearest the wall fold up while those opposite fold down under their own weight and the unit is held by a catch. The chairs 4 preferably unfold into position when the unit is lowered and are secured by bracing bars 11.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Wall-Mounted Fold-Away Table and Chairs This invention relates to a table and chairs being able to be folded away onto the wall.

Table and chairs are usually placed in a dining room or large kitchen and used for the consumption of food. The table and chairs are individual and separated, thus taking up a large space when not in use. This is particularly applicable in a smaller property.

With this table and chairs, a wall plate is fixed at one end and screwed to the wall; an extension bar runs along underneath the tabletop and out of the other side. The extension bar is enclosed in a box section under the table to allow it to be pulled apart. The chairs are supported on either side of the extension bar. The table has two legs to give it stability and support. To fold the structure away the extension bar is pushed into the box section, which is underneath the tabletop. The table and chairs are lifted off the floor using the bar handle at one end of the extension bar. The extension bar is hinged and fixed to the wall plate, thus enabling the structure to be lifted and folded onto the wall.

The chairs on the wall side are folded up. The opposite two chairs lie flat against the underside of the table.

EXAMPLE A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure1 shows the end elevation of the table folded down Figure 2 shows the side elevation of the table folded down Figure 3 illustrates the table folded up against the wall Figure 4 is a two dimensional portrayal of the table opened out onto the floor. With reference to the drawings, this table comprises a tabletop 1; concertinered extension bar 3, four chairs 4 supported on chair support bars. To support the table structure the table is fixed to the wall using a wall plate 10. The tabletop 1 is supported on two legs 2, the chairs are held up using the chair support bar 5 with legs to the floor.

To fold the table and chairs away, the structure is lifted slightly at the handle end 9, the extension bar is pushed together into the box section. The whole structure is then lifted up onto the wall. The chairs 4 on the wall side have the seats lifted up. Table legs 2 fold down as a result of their weight. Chairs 4 at the top are folded flat against underside of the table 1. Chair support bars 5 are folded down against underside of chairs. The table is kept in place with a catch (not shown).

To bring the table down, the wall catch is released and the table lowered into a horizontal position, whilst holding onto the handle 9. To obtain the correct distance apart between table 1 and chairs 4 the structure is lifted slightly using the handle 9, and the extension bar 3 is pulled apart until the catch on the extension bar engages in the box section 8. A bracing bar 11 supports and keeps the structure rigid.

Claims

CLAIMS 1) A wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs comprising a tabletop with support legs; folding chairs; extension bar hinged at wall plate; chair support bars hanging from extension bar.
2) A wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs as claimed in claim 1 wherein extension bar runs along from the wall where it is hinged.
3) Wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs as in claims 1 and 2. Tabletop mounted on extension bar with supporting legs on either side of the table.
4) Wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs as in claims 1-3 wherein extension bar is in two halves, joined together under the tabletop using a box section allowing in and out movement.
5) Wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs as claimed above wherein chair- support bars hang down from extension bar under side of chair on either side of the table 6) Wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs as claimed above wherein chairs opposite the wall open flat; when the table is folded up against the wall the chairs on the wall side fold in half. 7) Wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs as claimed above, wherein extension bar is pushed together and folded upwards to store against the wall. 8) Wall-mounted foldaway table and chairs substantially described herein with reference to figures 1-4 inclusive.
