Universal joints.-In a universal joint of the kind comprising a starpiece, the end of which engages forks on the shafts through the medium of adjustable anti-friction bearings adapted to withstand both radial and end thrust, the inner races C<4> for the balls or rollers E are formed directly upon the ends of the arms C of the starpiece and the outer races D<2> are formed in adjustable caps D screw-threaded into the forks A<2> on the shafts. The forks are split and when the caps are adjusted, the parts of the forks are drawn together to secure the caps by screws A<4>; members F carried by the screws A have lugs F<2> adapted to engage notches in the outer ends of the caps to lock them against rotation. The cup traces may be formed on the ends of the arms C and the cone races in the caps and packing rings G may be arranged between adjacent end or peripheral surfaces of the caps and arms of the starpiece.
