Abstract

A sliding door assembly 1 for a vehicle body has a slidable door 2 hung from an upper slide rail 3, and door 2 may be swung from a closed position in a parallel plane with a second door 6 to an open position in which it occupies plane Y-Y in which it may be slid to a fully open position. Door 2 is swung between slidable and closed positions by a hand-operated lever 21 of a lever mechanism; lever 21 is rotatable about pivot pin 24 to actuate operating rods 12 to pivot a carriage 5 about axes 5a and 5b so that rollers 4 rest at 45 DEG to the horizontal when door 2 is closed with an upper part of the circumference of each roller 4 being received in an elongate slot 8, the lever is operably disconnected when the door is swung to the slidable position. <IMAGE>
