Abstract

A box or like packaging device formed from a blank comprises a top panel (2), a base panel (1) and two side panels (3, 4) and end flaps which form the front side (5, 13, 14, 15) and the back side (16, 17, 18, 19) of the box. The side panels (3, 4) are mirror images of one another and have recesses (11, 12) in the corners thereof adjacent the front and back sides of the box. Perforations (8) facilitate opening. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A transportation and display box The present invention relates to a parallelepipedic transportation and display box or like packaging device, having a top panel, a base panel and two side panels, forming respectively the lid, the bottom and the sides of the box. The box also incorporates end flaps which form the respective front and back sides of the box, and is made from a single foldable blank or preform of sheet-like material, such as corrugated board, solid fibre board, or cardboard.
Combined transportation and display boxes and like packaging devices which comprise a single preform of sheet-like material are known to the art. The lid panels of such preforms or blanks are perforated, so that the box lid can be torn off in order to display the goods contained in the box on a consumer site. The object of the present invention is to provide an improved box or like packaging device of this kind, with which the goods packed in the box can be more advantageously presented to the consumer, without impairing the carrying strength of the box, for transportation purposes.
The box or like packaging device according to the invention is characterized in that its side panels are mirror images of one another in the top part of the box and have recesses in the corners thereof adjacent the front side and top panel of the box, and in that the top panel or the edges between the top panel and the side panels are provided with perforations which facilitate removal of at least a portion of the top panel from the remainder of the box.
A particular characteristic of the box according to the invention is that the end flap in the top panel of the box forming the front side thereof is itself provided with end flaps which when the box is erected, cover the recesses located in the side panels of the box.
A further characteristic of a box or like packaging device constructed in accordance with the invention is that the end flap forming the front side of the box has provided therein an aperture which facilitates grasping of the flap when the box is to be opened.
An exemplifying embodiment of a box or like packaging device according to the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of a box or like packaging device according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a plan view of a blank or preform of the box illustrated in Fig. 1.
The preform illustrated in Fig. 2 comprises a base panel 1, a top panel 2, and two side panels 3 and 4. The top panel 2 has an end flap 5, which itself incorporates two end flaps 6 and 7, the top panel 2 and the flaps 5, 6 and 7 together forming the lid of the box. The lid or top panel 2 has formed therein a series of perforations 8, along which the lid can be torn away from the remainder of the box, when the contents of the box are to be displayed. The flap 7 is provided with an aperture 9, to facilitate grasping of the lid when tearing the same from the box. The side panel 4 borders on a flap 10 which, together with the base panel 1, forms the box bottom.Each of the side panels 3 and 4 is the mirror image of the other in the top panel 2, and have recesses 11 and 12 in the corners thereof adjacent the end flap 5. The purpose of these recesses is to enable the contents of the box to be displayed more effectively. When the box is erected, the flaps 6 and 7 cover the recesses 11 and 12 and also support against the base part 1, so as to stiffen the box. The flap 5, the flap 13 of the base panel 1, and the respective flaps 14 and 15 of the side panels 3 and 4 together form the front side of the box, whereas the flap 16 of the base panel 1, the flap 17 of the top panel 2, and the respective flaps 18 and 19 of the side panels 3 and 4 together form the rear side of the box.
In the case of the illustrated embodiments, the perforations 8 are formed in the top part, or top panel, of the box. The perforations, however, may be equally as well formed in the folding lines 20 and 21 between the toppanel 2 and respective side panels 3 and 4.
When errecting the preform or blank of Fig. 2 to form the box of Fig. 1, the flaps 6 and 7 are first folded towards the flap 5, whereafter the flap 5 is folded over the top panel 2, so that the flaps 6 and 7 support thereagainst.
The side panels 3 and 4 are then folded so as to lie against respective flaps 6 and 7, whereafter flaps 14 and 15 are folded over the flap 5. The flaps 10, 18 and 19 are then folded inwards, and finally the bottom panel 1 is folded over the flap 10, the flap 13 over the flaps 6 and 7, and the flaps 16 and 17 over the flaps 18 and 19.
It will be understood that the invention is not restricted to the described and illustrated exemplifying embodiment, but that the invention embraces all conceivable embodiments lying within the scope of the following claims.

A parallelepipedic transportation and display box or like packaging device comprising a top panel (2), a base panel (1) and two side panels (3, 4), which form respectively the lid, bottom and sides of the box, and which have end flaps forming the front side (5, 13, 14, 15) and the back side (16, 17, 18, 19) of the box, said box or like packaging device comprising a single foldable preform of sheet-like material, such as corrugated board, solid fibre board, or cardboard, and the top panel (2) or

SPECIFICATION A transportation and display box The present invention relates to a parallelepipedic transportation and display box or like packaging device, having a top panel, a base panel and two side panels, forming respectively the lid, the bottom and the sides of the box. The box also incorporates end flaps which form the respective front and back sides of the box, and is made from a single foldable blank or preform of sheet-like material, such as corrugated board, solid fibre board, or cardboard. Combined transportation and display boxes and like packaging devices which comprise a single preform of sheet-like material are known to the art. The lid panels of such preforms or blanks are perforated, so that the box lid can be torn off in order to display the goods contained in the box on a consumer site. The object of the present invention is to provide an improved box or like packaging device of this kind, with which the goods packed in the box can be more advantageously presented to the consumer, without impairing the carrying strength of the box, for transportation purposes. An exemplifying embodiment of a box or like packaging device according to the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of a box or like packaging device according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a plan view of a blank or preform of the box illustrated in Fig. 1. The preform illustrated in Fig. 2 comprises a base panel 1, a top panel 2, and two side panels 3 and 4. The top panel 2 has an end flap 5, which itself incorporates two end flaps 6 and 7, the top panel 2 and the flaps 5, 6 and 7 together forming the lid of the box. The lid or top panel 2 has formed therein a series of perforations 8, along which the lid can be torn away from the remainder of the box, when the contents of the box are to be displayed. The flap 7 is provided with an aperture 9, to facilitate grasping of the lid when tearing the same from the box. The side panel 4 borders on a flap 10 which, together with the base panel 1, forms the box bottom.Each of the side panels 3 and 4 is the mirror image of the other in the top panel 2, and have recesses 11 and 12 in the corners thereof adjacent the end flap 5. The purpose of these recesses is to enable the contents of the box to be displayed more effectively. When the box is erected, the flaps 6 and 7 cover the recesses 11 and 12 and also support against the base part 1, so as to stiffen the box. The flap 5, the flap 13 of the base panel 1, and the respective flaps 14 and 15 of the side panels 3 and 4 together form the front side of the box, whereas the flap 16 of the base panel 1, the flap 17 of the top panel 2, and the respective flaps 18 and 19 of the side panels 3 and 4 together form the rear side of the box. In the case of the illustrated embodiments, the perforations 8 are formed in the top part, or top panel, of the box. The perforations, however, may be equally as well formed in the folding lines 20 and 21 between the toppanel 2 and respective side panels 3 and 4. When errecting the preform or blank of Fig. 2 to form the box of Fig. 1, the flaps 6 and 7 are first folded towards the flap 5, whereafter the flap 5 is folded over the top panel 2, so that the flaps 6 and 7 support thereagainst. The side panels 3 and 4 are then folded so as to lie against respective flaps 6 and 7, whereafter flaps 14 and 15 are folded over the flap 5. The flaps 10, 18 and 19 are then folded inwards, and finally the bottom panel 1 is folded over the flap 10, the flap 13 over the flaps 6 and 7, and the flaps 16 and 17 over the flaps 18 and 19. It will be understood that the invention is not restricted to the described and illustrated exemplifying embodiment, but that the invention embraces all conceivable embodiments lying within the scope of the following claims. CLAIMS
1. A parallelepipedic transportation and display box or like packaging device comprising a top panel (2), a base panel (1) and two side panels (3, 4), which form respectively the lid, bottom and sides of the box, and which have end flaps forming the front side (5, 13, 14, 15) and the back side (16, 17, 18, 19) of the box, said box or like packaging device comprising a single foldable preform of sheet-like material, such as corrugated board, solid fibre board, or cardboard, and the top panel (2) or the edges bordering the top panel and the side panels having provided therein perforations (8) for facilitatFg removal of at least a part of the top panel from the remainder of the box, characterized in that the side panels (3, 4) are mirror images of one another in the top panel (12) or top part of the box and have recesses (11, 12) in the corners thereof adjacent the front and back sides of the box; and in that the end flap (5) in the top panel (2) of the box that forms the front side thereof itself incorporates end flaps (6, 7), which when the box is erected cover the recesses (11, 12) in the side panels (3, 4), said end flaps (5, 6, 7) extending down to the bottom of the box when the box is erected and forming a support for the top panel or part (2).
2. A box or like packaging device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the end flap (6) forming the front side of the box is provided with an aperture (9) in order to facilitate grasping of the flap (5) when opening the box.
