Abstract

Vehicle lamps; mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-In a vehicle headlight a spherical reflector 3 having a diameter at least equal to its radius of curvature is so mounted that its axis of revolution x, x is inclined to but in the same vertical plane as the axis y, y of the lamp. The luminous source such as an electric lamp bulb F is situated on a horizontal radius midway between the centre of curvature C and the reflector 3 so that part of the light will be projected forwardly for long distance illumination, and part will illuminate the sides of and in front of the vehicle. The electric lamp bulb F is mounted vertically or inclined and is adjustable longitudinallv by a device on the lamp or from the driver's seat by mechanical or electromagnetic means so that the centre of the luminous source may be raised from the position shown in Fig. 2, to a position 2. Fig. 4, in an inclined radius z<2> z<2> in order to reflect all the light downwardly. Alternatively use mav be made of an electric lamp bulb having two independently controlled filaments, the one for intense illumination being situated on the horizontal axis z<1> z<1> and the one for non-dazzling illumination being situated on the inclined radius z<2> z<2>.
