Abstract

A safety device is used to protect persons from such hazards as impact with elongate rods and spikes e.g. ordinary garden canes inserted in the ground to support pants. The safety device is slipped over where appropriate by a push and pull, slip on, slip off, action thus covering such hazards. It is retained in position by the tension created at the base area and the location guide/stop area 1. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Safety device This invention relates to a "Safety Device".
In daily working circumstances there are occasions when hazards can cause injuries to the eye, face, or body, such as gardening canes mounted in the ground to support flowers and other protruding articles like spikes of a fence, and sharp objects.
In the past persons have been known to protect themselves from injuries by such articles previously mentioned by covering the hazards in question with such items as jam jars, tennis balls, and gloves.
According to the present invention there is provided a safety device comprising of a smooth outer rounded surface with a narrower entrance at the base. There are slots at the base which allows the safety device to expand to accommodate various diameters of articles to be inserted, encompassing the hazard.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a detailed drawing of the safety device, three plans.
Figure 2 shows various outer shapes of the safety device.
Figure 3 shows safety device on a cane, and as one assembly.
Figure 4 shows an instance of use for the safety device, at a rescue.
Referring to the drawing on Figure 1. The safety device comprises of a rounded outer shape 2, with a narrower base 4, and slots running up from the base 4. The slots are 3 on the drawing. On the inside is a guide/stop 1, to locate and secure items that are inserted, continuing in this area is a strengthened area 5, through and at the end of area 1.
In order to place the safety device on a hazard the tip of the hazard is partly inserted inside base 4, the safety device is then pushed slowly onto the hazard, (a turning motion may assist), until the hazard has entered through area 1, and become stationary and located onto inside piece 5. Guided into position through area 1.
Thus the safety device has covered the end of or the hazard, and with the hazard being retained in position by the end/stop/guide 1 and 5. Also with slots 3, on the base 4, securing the articles of hazard in position.
The drawing in Figure 4, relates to a use of the safety device 1, in which its use in this case is covering the hazard, 4, to allow the rescue persons 3, to be protected from further injury, prior to rescuing victim 2, seen here is a rescue person placing the safety device 5, onto the hazard 4. Safety devices 1 are already be fitted.
1. A safety device comprising a rounded outer body narrowing at the base with slots set into the area of the base to allow for the action of tension to be used to assist in holding articles/items which require to be inserted into the safety device such articles/items diameters should be in relation to the inside diameter of the safety device.
2. The slots in the base area are there to allow the base area diameter to enlarge slightly thus a slightly larger article/item may be inserted and the tension is still retained due to the flexibility of the base area which incorporates these slots for such a purpose.
3. The method of its operation is push on and pull off. A screwing motion with the hand would probably assist with insertion and extraction.
4. As an alternative to the basic shape on Figure 1. Other outer shapes and designs are shown in Figure 2.
5. Modifications and improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention.
