Abstract
Compositions for scouring clothes or animal or vegetable fibres and for addition to bleaching baths to ensure uniform dispersion and action of the bleaching material comprise hydrogenated hydrocarbons, or hydrogenated phenolic bodies, e.g. tetrahydronapthol, or both, alkali salts of sulphonated oils or of sulphonic acids or of soap-forming fatty acids or of mixtures thereof, and colloidal silicates or colloidal suspensions of silicates. Suitable alkali salts are sodium stearate, sulpho-ricinoleate, and sulpho-naphthenate. Suitable silicates are Bentonite, Ehrenbergite, china clay, blue or ball clay, killas or like clays, magnesium silicate, and sodium silicate gel, with or without peptizing agents, e.g. alcohols or phenols. In an example, 30 lb. of hard soap, 20 lb. of decahydronaphthalene, 20 lb. of tetrahydronaphthalene, 20 lb. of cyclohexanol, 4 lb. of water, and 0.5 lb. of a colloidal suspension containing 30 - 50 per cent of a silicate, are mixed together. According to the Provisional Specification, chlorinated paraffins may be used with or in place of the hydrogenated solvents.ALSO:Compositions for addition to dyeing baths to ensure uniform dispersion and action of the dye comprise hydrogenated hydrocarbons, or hydrogenated phenolic bodies, e.g. tetrahydronaphthol, or both, alkali salts of sulphonated oils or of sulphonic acids or of soap-forming fatty acids or of mixtures thereof, and colloidal silicates or colloidal suspensions of silicates.
