Latches, lift and thumb.-In a lift and thumb latch of the kind in which the latch-actuating member is an inverted L-shaped lever passing through the door and pivoted to the outside handle. means are provided to prevent actuation. The lever e is pivoted to the outside handle a at f and a limb passes through the door under the latch c. A lug i is fixed to the attaching plate b and has a hole aligned with the hole g in the lever e. A padlock or pin passed through these holes prevents movement of the lever e to actuate the latch. A hole h may be made in the limb of the lever which passes through the door so that a pin j may be passed through on the inside of the door to prevent lifting of the latch. A series of such holes may be made to allow for varying thicknesses of door. The latch c may be provided with a lateral extension l formed on the latch to prevent insertion of a flat tool into the hole in the door. from the outside, to lift the latch when a padlock has locked the lever e.
