Abstract
Metal substrates are protected against corrosion by applying a protective covering of a heat-recoverable article such as a heat-shrinkable sleeve or wrap-around sleeve which is provided with an inner coating or lining of a sealant composition containing a corrosion- inhibitor appropriate to the metal. The preferred corrosion-inhibitors are soluble so that they dissolve in any moisture which diffuses through the sealant layer and preferably act by passivating the metal surface by anodic or cathodic inhibition mechanisms. The presence of the heat-recoverable material ensures that the soluble corrosion- inhibitors do not become leached out from the sealant composition.
