Abstract

Vacuum cleaner nozzles have to pick up threads from carpets, and to loosen these threads from the pile the nozzles generally have means that will perform a raking or stripping action as the nozzle is moved to and fro. To improve this, there is proposed a flexible pickup strip (12) housed in a downwardly divergent recess (6, 7) in the underside of the nozzle (2). As the nozzle is moved the strip is wiped over the pile, which springs up into the recess and engages a brushed velour (for example) covering over at least the lower edge portion of the strip. The strip flexes towards whichever of the inclined walls (8, 9) of the recess is trailing. <IMAGE>
