Abstract

Methacrylic acid is separated and recovered from a mixture of esterification products comprising water, methanol, methacrylic acid and methyl methacrylate by subjecting the mixture to distillation to withdraw essentially all of the methacrylic acid from the bottom and to distil off essentially all of the water, methanol and methyl methacrylate from the overhead.
