Abstract
192,422. Plantation Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Dessau, M. M. July 28, 1921. Indiarubber brushes; brushes combined with pads; pads and like rubbing and polishing appliances.-A brush or pad comprises a strip or sheet a, Fig. 1, of rubber or composition containing rubber which is formed with perforations band threaded on a rod c, the folded strip being secured, detachably or otherwise, to the rod to form a brushing element which mav be used singly or combined with other similar elements. A single element may be mounted in a forked handle for use as a massage appliance. A road-sweeping brush may be formed from a number of such elements mounted on a rotary carrier. An appliance for sanitary use or as a deck-scrubber comprises a number of elements concentrically arranged to constitute a circular brush or pad. A number of elements may also be used in combination with brushing material such as hair or bristles, and for some purposes the spaces between the folds may be filled with spongy rubber. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, a number of very narrow strips h are passed through holes in a backing j. Each strip may be passed singly through the holes from opposite sides alternately to form loops k projecting from one side, as shown, or from both sides to form a reversible brush. The strip may be passed doubly through each individual hole, in which case the limbs of each loop may be united along their length as shown at m or left separate as shown at n. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, a relatively wide strip p is folded and the ends o passed through slots in the strip to form handles, the device being used as a nail or toilet brush. According to the Provisional Specification, this brush may be modified by the use of a. number of layers shaped and cemented together to give different surfaces to the faces and backs of the strip.
