Abstract
191,547. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 17, 1921. Recovering waste lubricants.-In a device for treating oil, and particularly for reconditioning lubricating oil removed from the crank case of an internal combustion engine, the filtered oil from a tank 4 is caused to flow at a constant rate as a film over one or more electric lamps 6, 7 and fall into a storage tank 35, while induced currentsof air entering by holes 25 are directed over the film by plates 24 and escape with volatile impurities through holes 26. Preferably the lamps are frosted or roughened and covered with brass gauze or other perforated envelopes 20, 21, which in their preferred form have crimped edges 22 and teeth 23. on the lower edge for directing the flow of oil. The upper lamp is adapted to operate at about 110-125‹ C., the lower at 135-155‹ C. In a modified device the tank 4 is separated from the heating chamber 15 by an intermediate chamber provided with two rows of ventilating holes to prevent heating of the oil in the tank 4.
