Abstract

1819. Wightman, D. Feb. 4. Golf clubs; hockey sticks; rackets; cricket bats; croquet mallets; handles; shafts.-The handles or shafts of sporting requisites, such as golf clubs, hockey sticks, rackets, cricket bats, baseball clubs, and croquet mallets, are connected to the striking-head by means of a spring. As applied to a golf club, Fig. 1, the ends of the spring 3 are secured within recesses in the shaft 1 and in the head 2 by means of rivets 9, 11. Ferrules 14, 15 are added, and the joint is covered by a sheath 16 of leather. As shown in Fig. 2, the spring may encircle the ends of the shaft and head, these ends being tipped with rounded metal caps. In a modification, Fig. 3, a flat spring 21 is used; in a further modification, a combination of a spiral and a flat spring is fitted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 11,893/02, 22,968/03, 1230/07, and 3489/10.
