Abstract

Filtering.-An air filter, more particularly for air supplied to compressors or used for cooling turbo-dynamos, consists of a casing containing a set of similar frames e upon which parallel strings i with a soft fibrous surface are stretched, the sets of strings being staggered so that the air is caused to take a zigzag path. The casings may be arranged side by side, or one above another, and are preferably provided with intake and exit nozzles b, c. The frames shown are rectangular and of iron having a T-section, Fig. 4, or a +-section, Fig. 6, according as they carry one or two sets of strings. The strings are wound around dovetail notches k in the flanges, and may consist of one continuous length wound around front and rear notches. In the case of frames with one set of strings only, the staggered arrangement may be effected by simply inverting alternate frames, or by making alternate frames adjustable laterally. The strings of adjacent frames may, however, be arranged at right-angles.
