Abstract

166,718. Shaw, H. S. Hele-, Tribe, E., and Joy, B. C. April 22, 1920. Cup-leather joints; spigot joints with divided sleeve; bayonet joints.-Relates to means for securing the housing d of the leak-preventing ring c described in Specification 149,381 to the joint and preventing longitudinal separation of the pipes a, b. Various modifications are described in which shoulders on the pipes and retaining- rings engaging them and recesses in the housing are employed. As shown in Fig. 1, the springy divided rings e, f can be pushed endways into the housing till they expand into the recesses 1, 2. In one modification, the rings screw into the ends of the housings, in another they have external projections engaging recesses in the housing in bayonet-joint fashion. In a third, inter. rupted flanges on the pipes engage recesses in the housing on turning. In a further modification, the pipes are grooved and rings lying in deep recesses in the housing are pressed down by screws to engage the grooves after the pipes are inserted in the housing. Fig. 15 shows a further modification wherein longitudinal separation is not positively prevented, the housing having a split end, which can be tightened up by a bolt passing through holes 23 in lugs 22.
