Abstract
1527399 Radar WESTINGHOUSE CANADA Ltd 6 Sept 1976 [11 Sept 1975] 36845/76 Heading H4D [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for beating non-linear junctions between metallic materials and/or semi-conductive materials includes signal generators 1, 2, for radiating respectively signals having different non- harmonically related frequencies f 1 , f 2 , and allowing them to impinge on such junctions, and a receiver 6 for detecting the presence of a predetermined frequency, given by n 1 f 1 Œ n 2 f 2 , in a return signal, whereby the section of a non-linear device 8 is determined (n 1 and n 2 are integers). Non-linear junctions which exhibit a square law response with respect to voltage and current across the junction when illuminated by electromagnetic signals, reradiate harmonics related to the frequency of the illuminating electromagnetic signals. Range and bearing information can also be obtained using modulation signals 9, 10, superimposed on the carrier signals. The invention may act as a sonic transponder, e.g. a sonic position indicator.
