Abstract

1522307 Radiography EMI Ltd 22 Oct 1975 [22 Oct 1974] 45548/74 Heading H4F In a radiological examination apparatus of the type wherein a divergent beam of X or gamma radiation passes through a planar slice of a body 2 and the transmitted radiation is collimated at 3 into a number of beams, the transmitted radiation is measured by detectors 5, the number of detectors being greater than the number of collimated beams and the detectors being mounted for movement relative to the source and collimators 3, e.g. on a rotating drum 6 which can also carry photo-diodes if the detectors are scintillators, and also amplifiers and digitisers. At respective positions around the drum there can be a calibration source 23 and a shield 22 to permit the "afterglow" of the detectors to be measured. As usual in such apparatus the source collimators and detectors are orbited about an axis 7 perpendicular to the planar slice and by suitably arranging the overall orbiting and the rotation of drum 6 the effect of using a parallel set of beams can be obtained instead of that of a divergent set.
