Abstract

1519157 Urethane prepolymers; radiationcurable coating compositions BASF AG 23 Oct 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 43572/75 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Division C2] Novel prepolymers containing at least one olefinic end group, at least one urethane group, at least one urea group, and at least one hydroxyl group and at least one tertiary amino group which may be part of a urea group, there being one or two hydroxyl groups per double bond in the unsaturated end group, are obtained either by (1) reacting hydroxyl compounds with di-isocyanates, reacting the products with diamines containing primary and secondary amino groups and reacting the products with unsaturated epoxides, or (2) reacting hydroxyl compounds with di-isocyanates and reacting the products with the reaction products of primary monoamines and unsaturated epoxides. A radiation-curable coating composition comprises a prepolymer of the above type. The composition may comprise 10 to 80% by weight of the above prepolymer, 0 to 80% by weight of a copolymerizable monomer which differs from the prepolymer and is liquid at room temperature and 0 to 20% by weight of a non- polymerizable liquid organic solvent.
