Abstract

1518483 Filling and sealing miniature electrochemical cells P R MALLORY & CO Inc 8 March 1977 [8 March 1976] 09663/77 Heading H1B A miniature cell has a metal, e.g. Ta, tube 112, through which electrolyte is introduced, which is subsequently sealed at 124. The tube also acts as a terminal and is sealed by glass and metal rings 121, 122. Anode 114 may be Li, cathode 116 porous Ag 2 CrO 4 , and electrolyte LiAlCl 4 dissolved in an organic solvent several of which are described. Alternatively, an electrolyte-cathode depolarizer of liquid SO 2 , lithium bromide, and acetonitrile and propylene carbonate may be used. The metal can 118 may be Cu, Fe, steel, Ni, Ti, Ta, Mo, Cr, V, W. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the other terminal may pass through a further glass seal in the top of the cell.
