Abstract

1513871 Dynamo-electric machines ROLLSROYCE MOTORS LTD 8 March 1976 (8 March 1975] 9776/75 Heading H2A Apparatus for starting an I.C. engine comprises a wound discoidal arm at are 7 and a source 3 of magnetic flux, one of which is arranged to be fixed to the engine flywheel 2 and the other to a member 11 adjacent to the flywheel, and a flux return member 12 on the side of the armature remote from the source of flux. The source of flux may be an array of permanent magnets or of field coils. The apparatus may comprise two wound armatures, Fig. 5 (not shown). In addition to functioning as a starter motor, the apparatus may function as a generator during normal operation of the I.C. engine.
