Abstract
1503903 Solar collectors PA MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS Ltd 28 Feb 1975 [29 Nov 1973] 55423/73 Heading F4U A collector C for radiant energy, e.g. solar energy, forms a part of a heat pipe. The heat pipe comprises the collector C and a small-bore tube T, fluid condensed at the emitter end E of the tube being returned by gravity or through a wick structure to the collector. The lower surface of the collector is treated so as to exhibit black-body characteristics, and the upper surface is formed of a material opaque to radiation emitted from the lower surface. To reduce convection losses, the upper surface of the collector is separated from the outside air by an evacuated glass envelope. The external surfaces of the sides and bottom of the collector and the tube are covered by thermal insulation F.
