Abstract
1492266 Extractive distillation LEUNAWERKE "WALTER ULBRICHT" VEB 23 May 1975 [13 June 1974] 22889/75 Heading C5E Styrene, or substituted styrene, is recovered from mixtures by extractive distillation at reduced pressure and in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor, such as hydroquinone, using a solvent comprising an N-alkyl-#- caprolactam. The caprolactam can be N- methyl-#-caprolactam or N-ethyl-#-caprolactam and can be used in admixture with ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol. The styrenecontaining mixture can be produced by the cracking of benzines or diesel oils or by the dehydrogenation of ethyl benzenes and can be separated into a C 8 fraction, a C 7 and lower fraction and a C 9 and higher fraction by fractional distillation prior to the extractive distillation. The extractive distillation can be carried out at 45-50‹ C. and 30 mmHg.
