Abstract

1491681 Vehicle lamps M P O'CONNOR and M E OAKMAN 2 April 1975 36917/75 Heading F4R A rear lamp for a vehicle comprises an elongate transparent tube and a pair of light sources positioned one at each end of the tube to illuminate the interior thereof, the tube being coated with or incorporating a luminescent material. The tube is preferably made from plastics material such as polyvinylchloride polymethyl methacrylate, polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene and the luminescent material may be added to the plastics material before extrusion of the tube or applied as a thin coating of orange-red fluorescent paint. Alternatively, the luminescent material may be incorporated into a thin film which is applied to the surface of the tube, for example by heatshrinking.
