Abstract

1489488 Pipe couplings FAMILIAN CORP MG COUPLING DIVISION 18 March 1975 [7 Oct 1974] 11157/75 Heading F2G A coupling for pipes 10, 11 which may or may not have external annular end ribs 14, 15 comprises semicircular clamping members 18, 19 constructed to be clamped together around the pipe ends, and an annular gasket 64 interposed between the clamping member and the pipe ends and spanning the ends of the pipes, the clamping members 18, 19 being constructed to clamp the gasket 64 against the pipe ends and being flexible enough to deform in contour when a clamping force, which draws the members 18, 19 toward each other, is applied so that a radially inward clamping force is exerted against the gasket throughout substantially 360 degrees. The gasket 64 has diametrically opposed ears 80 to be clamped between complementary shaped end parts of the clamping members 18, 19. Each clamping member has annular ribs and grooves including a shallow internal recess to receive an external rib 70 provided on the gasket. The gasket also has an internal rib to fit between the abutting ends of pipes 10, 11 and further internal and external annular ribs adjacent the ends of the gasket. The clamping members 18, 19 are preferably made of plastics, e.g. ABS, whilst the gasket 64 may be of neoprene.
