Abstract

1487736 Ball-and-socket vehicle couplings WHITMOR ENG (DUDLEY) Ltd 17 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 48559/73 Headings B7T and B7J A socket member 2 for forming part of a ball-and-socket vehicle coupling has a handle 50 fixed to the socket member 2, and is provided with a locking plate 16 urged by a spring 24 for pivotal movement about a pin 18 into a locking position in which a part 17 of the locking plate 16 projects into the socket 4 of the socket member 2 to prevent, in use, removal of the ball member of the coupling, the locking plate 16 being provided with a hole 28 for receiving part of a padlock (not shown) for securing the locking plate against unauthorized movement from its locking position. As illustrated, a pivotally mounted safety catch 30 is spring urged into engagement in a slot (40), Fig. 3 (not shown), of the locking plate 16.
