Abstract

1487431 Retractive switches ETAB GERARD MANG 9 Jan 1975 [10 Jan 1974] 967/75 Heading H1N In order to provide a push-button switch having an operating button of large area with a very short stroke which requires a very small force applied at any point of the button, the switch comprises a casing 8, two terminals 11, 12 for external connections, at least one fixed conductive element 10 connected to the terminals 11, 12 and divided into a plurality of parts 14, 15, 16a, 16b 16c, separated by insulating gaps, movable contact members 13 to bridge respective gaps but held away by springs 29, and a cover plate 30 forming the control button which can be manually pressed to move members 13 into contact with the element 10, the movable contact members being arranged in independent spaced groups 13a, 13b, 13c, each comprising at least two members such that contact between all the movable contact members of any one group and the adjacent parts of element 10 completes a circuit through the switch. As shown the movable contacts 13 are carried by a plate 18 and may be fitted bayonetfashion in recesses 19 (Fig. 6, not shown), being urged outwardly by springs 24. The element 10 is a printed-circuit on a support 9. The plate 18 is located by heads 25 attached to studs 26 by screws 27 and since heads 25 bear on the element 10 accurate spacing of contacts 13 from the element 10 is ensured whatever the thickness of the printed circuit. Because of the small travel needed the switch may be embedded in a wall (33, Fig. 7, not shown) behind a covering (34) provided the latter is slightly flexible.
