Abstract

1485365 Ball and socket joints AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 4-Nov 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 51891/73 Heading E2F A ball and socket joint comprises a ball pin 11 and a socket housing formed in two parts 20, 21; a circumferential recess 25 being formed on the outer surface of housing part 21 and engaged by a bent-in portion 28 of part 20 to prevent separation of the parts after assembly of the joint. Housing part 21 screws into part 20 and has an internal flange 22. A dished element 23 forms part of the bearing surface for the ball and a resilient bearing member is held between this element and the flange 22. Once the parts 20, 21 have been screwed together, portion 28 is deformed into the recess 25. Lubrication grooves 15 are formed on the surface of the ball.
