Abstract
1485020 Cooling rolled products BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP 12 Nov 1974 [15 Nov 1973] 48953/74 Heading B3M A spray unit for cooling a rod or bar being rolled in a continuous hot rolling mill comprises two coolant spray chambers 50, Fig. 5, in tandem, each chamber having sets of spray nozzles 80 surrounding the workpiece 5 and having elongated bars 83 for protecting the nozzles from the workpiece. The bars, Fig. 3, may be of rectangular shape and are mounted on yokes 81 and 89. The nozzles are supplied with water (or other coolant) under a pressure of about 25 p.s.i. to about 60 p.s.i. from water headers formed in the upper and lower portions of the chambers. To maintain the workpiece in a desired horizontal pass line through the chambers, guide funnels 76 and 76<SP>1</SP> are provided at the exit ends of the chambers. Each funnel is vertically adjustable by either a pivoted arm 73 or eccentric shaft 74b. Spray units 50-53, Fig. 1, are located between the stands 22-27 of an intermediate train and between the stand 27 and a finishing train 28 with stands 29-32.
