1481521 Mixing liquids in proportions COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 5 Nov 1974 [5 Nov 1973] 47783/74 Heading B1C [Also in Divisions Fl and G1] Apparatus for sampling first and second liquids from containers 28, 15 and delivering them through a common conduit 13 to receiver 16 comprises first and second pumps 1, 2 each having a double-acting piston 39, 40 and control means for supplying an actuating fluid such as compressed air alternately to the two ends of the cylinder of each pump (through lines 8, 9), to reciprocate the pistons and to connect chamber 5 of the first pump to container 28 of the first liquid during the suction stroke of pump 1 and through line 17 to the chamber 6 of the second pump 2 during the delivery stroke of pump 1, the chamber 6 of the second pump being connected to the common conduit 13, so that during the suction stroke of the second pump the second liquid is drawn from container 15 towards chamber 6 and during the delivery stroke of the second pump samples of the first and second liquids are discharged through the common conduit into receiver 16, the piston of the second pump having rod 42 which extends through auxiliary free piston 52 in an auxiliary cylinder and which is movable by the auxiliary piston at the end of the delivery stroke to retract the piston of the second pump slightly from its end of delivery position (Fig. 1, not shown) to cause an air bubble to form at the end 14 of conduit 13, this air bubble serving to separate the two liquids for the next sampling operation. In the apparatus shown, the control means comprises slide valve 18, the moving member of the slide valve being advanced by compressed air fed through line 33 and retracted by spring 32. Compressed air for operation of the pumps 1 and 2 is fed in through passages in the slide valve from 38, and compressed air for retraction of the auxiliary piston is fed at 46 to aligned passages 45, 43. 50 at the end of the delivery stroke of the pumps.
