1477829 Closuring containers PLASTONA (JOHN WADDINGTON) Ltd 23 July 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 00423/76 Divided out of 1477828 Headings B8T B8C and B8D A method of applying a plastics lid 50 having a depending peripheral flange 54 to a thermoplastics container 48 having an outwardly extending flange 52 around its opening comprises placing the lid to close the container with its flange surrounding the container flange, tucking the lid flange round and under the container flange by the application of heat to the lid flange through the heated forming ring 56 and axially pressing the lid flange by lowering the die 60 so that the lid flange is pressed into the rounded bottom of a shoulder 58 of the ring 56. The method may be applied to the lids of Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown) which are embodiments of the invention of Specification 1,477,828.
