Abstract
1471485 Laminates R HERRMANN and E KUHLE 18 Nov 1974 [16 Nov 1973] 49913/74 Heading B5N A process for the production of a glass-fibre reinforced curable synthetic resin laminated structure comprises sequentially laying down (a) a first preformed plastics film of a synthetic plastics material compatible with the synthetic resin; (b) a first layer of a fluid resin comprising the synthetic resin or a mixture thereof with glass fibres, the first layer being applied to the first film and allowed to remain unaired; (c) a first non-woven glass fibre fabric applied by means of a roller to the first layer; (d) a second layer of a fluid resin composition comprising the synthetic resin or a mixture thereof with glass fibres, the second layer being applied to the first non-woven fabric to impregnate the same; (e) a woven fabric formed from glass-fibre rovings applied to the thus-impregnated first non-woven fabric by means of a roller; (f) a third layer of a fluid resin composition comprising the synthetic resins or a mixture thereof with glass fibres, the third layer being applied to the woven fabric to impregnate the same; (g) a second non- woven glass-fibre fabric applied by means of a roller to the thus-impregnated woven fabric; (h) a fourth layer of a fluid resin comprising the synthetic resin or a mixture thereof with glass fibres, the fourth layer being applied to the second non-woven fabric to impregnate the same, and (i) a second pre-formed plastics film formed of a synthetic plastics material applied by means of a roller to the thus-impregnated second non-woven fabric; each of the films and fabrics being drawn off a supply reel in a continuous drawing operation. In the drawings, polyester films f are supplied from reels 2, non- woven glass fibre fabrics m from reels 3 and woven glass-fibre roving fabric from reel g, the materials f, m and g passing from the reels around guide rollers 5 and on to a work-table 6 constructed so as to vibrate. The resin is supplied by devices 7 each consisting of a storage container 8, an extracting roller 9 and a stripper device 10, a laminating roller 10 being provided downstream of each device 7. After assembly, the laminate is fed by drawing device 11 through shaping section 20 and on to heating section 21 consisting of separately controllable heating zones 22, 23 and 24, the first zone serving to get the structure, the second to dissipate the heat generated by exothermic chemical reaction and the third to temper the structure. After completion of the process, the outer films are detached for re-use. The resin may be a polyester admixed with styrene and a catalyst.
