Abstract

1471336 Sterilizing acid-stable enzymes, hormones, human serum proteins and antibiotics ARMOUR PHARMACEUTICAL CO 10 April 1974 [16 April 1973 1 June 1973] 15874/74 Heading A2D [Also in Division C3] Acid-resistant enzymes, hormones, human serum proteins and antibiotics suspended or dissolved in a liquid carrier, such as water. saline or carbohydrate solution, are sterilized by acidification to a pH of from 1.25 to 2.5, storage at a temperature of from 4 to 70‹C for up to 48 hours to inactivate microbial flora and then neutralization. Examples illustrate the sterilization of liquids containing trypsin, chymotrypsin, papain, pancreatin, streptomycin, gentamycin, kanomycin, erythromycin, tetracycline, gamma globulin and nystatin. Acids used for acidification are hydrochloric. sulphuric, sulphurous, oxalic and nitric acids.
