Abstract

1454365 Apparatus for treating microscope specimens W H B MAWHINNEY 20 Nov 1973 [6 Oct 1972] 46328/72 Heading G2J Microscope slides are positioned on a slide carrier 11 having one or more recesses 12 and inlet and outlet pipes 16, 17 which communicate with the recesses so that a liquid may be drawn through the recesses under the slides, in order to treat the specimens. Apparatus for delivering a sequence of liquids to the slide carrier is shown in Fig. 6. Tubes 28, 31 are connected to the inlet and outlet pipes 16, 17 respectively. A rack carrying containers of required reagents is advanced along a support 23 until the first container is positioned beneath a pipe 29 which is connected to the tube 28. The pipe is lowered into the reagent and the liquid is sucked through the tubes to the slide carrier recesses. After the required treatment time has elapsed, the vacuum is cut off, the tube 29 raised and the rack advanced until the next container lies below the tube 29, when the process is repeated. An electric circuit Fig. 7 (not shown) for providing automatic, time controlled, sequential treatment of the specimens is described.
